Grand Opening of the Murray Armory – A Historic Transformation in the Heart of Murray!
From military roots to modern elegance—the former Utah Army National Guard Armory has officially been reimagined as the Murray Armory, opening this summer along the serene banks of Little Cottonwood Creek.
Originally built on the west side of Murray Park in 1949 by the Frederickson Building Company of Salt Lake, the facility was commissioned by the Utah National Guard to be used as a motor vehicle storage and maintenance garage. And now, with a connection to the Murray Arboretum and Murray Park, this facility represents a bold step forward in community placemaking and adaptive reuse.
Designed by ajc architects in collaboration with our outstanding consultant team and expertly built by Paulsen Construction, this once-forgotten structure now stands as a vibrant and flexible venue ready to host weddings, reunions, and civic events for up to 300 guests.
Design features include: a preserved historic brick and concrete structure that has been seismically upgraded and re-purposed into a multi-use space offering views into Murray Park, a unique outdoor courtyard with a shaded trellis structure, stage, and outdoor fireplaces.
A heartfelt thank you to Murray City Parks and Recreation Department stakeholders for entrusting us with this unique design opportunity. It’s been an honor to help shape a space that celebrates both the city’s history and its future.
