Southern Utah Museum of Art

With the goal of establishing a significant art museum for the campus of Southern Utah University (SUU) and the southern Utah region, ajc architects was selected to provide programming for the Southern Utah Museum of Art (SUMA), beginning formal programming efforts in the spring of 2010 and wrapping up the project in the fall of the same year. ajc project leaders conducted multiple workshops with all interested parties to envision and solidify the museum’s purpose and constituents, as well as the relationships among interior spaces and exterior landscapes, making special provisions for a recent gift of local artist Jim Jones’ work. The finished program document details the requirements for SUMA’s cutting-edge galleries and environmentally secure collections and conservation spaces, educational areas and public gathering space.
