Mesa Verde National Park Visitor and Research Center

National Park Service
ajc architects designed the Mesa Verde Visitor and Research Center to be a stand-alone facility with repository, processing area, and research space to study over three million artifacts and archives in the collection. The facility also includes visitor information area, exhibit area, the Park‘s library, archives, general office, and work space. Site-work and utilities development, including an access road, visitor parking and on site waste water treatment system. Unique sustainable features include a strong focus on renewable energy systems including a geothermal system, use of a micro-turbine, and photovoltaics. The design concept was based on the significance of the circle to tribes and pueblos of Mesa Verde, both in form and plan. A central organizing circular core is located to provide access (both visual and real) to the four main programmatic elements of the project: Collections, Research and Office, Library, and the Visitor Center. The project is registered with USGBC and pursuing LEED Platinum level of certification.
