Grand Teton National Park Headquarters Facility/Moose Maintenance Building
National Park Service
ajc architects is providing design services for a major renovation to the Moose Maintenance Building that serves as Grand Teton National Park’s headquarters facility. ajc worked closely with the National Park Service and the General Services Administration to consolidate and redistribute existing and new programs to make more efficient use of space, eliminate temporary buildings, and incorporate contemporary concepts into office space planning, such as Workplace 20/20. This complex renovation includes office space for the Park’s administrative, interpretive, law enforcement, resource management, and facility management staff. The original building was constructed in the 1950s as a single-story steel-framed vehicle storage and maintenance building. Numerous additions and encroachment of office space occurred subsequently, culminating in a two-story addition on top of the building in the 1990s that was never fit out or occupied. The new design balances the needs of the different divisions and the seasonal fluctuation in staff numbers with the complex realities of phased construction, fire separation, and air quality issues resulting from emergency vehicle maintenance within the building, as well as the inclusion of an emergency communication facility with its elevated security, seismic, and system redundancy requirements. The facility is registered with USGBC and pursuing LEED Silver level of certification.
